Tanked water heaters have storage tanks which continuously heat and store water. Typically, tanks are 50 gallons and stand about 5 feet tall and 2 feet wide. Since these water heaters store water, they also run out of hot water and you must wait for the water to reheat and refill the tank. Tanked water heaters typically are usually less to install, but have a shorter lifespan.
Tankless water heaters are also known as on-demand water heaters because they do not any water. Instead, tankless water heaters heat water as it passes through the unit so you always have hot water. They are much smaller than tanked water heaters and are mounted on the wall. Tankless water heaters usually cost more to install, but typically last longer than tanked water heaters.
